1000 pastors recently met in Israel to show solidarity with the state, having a goal now of raising their number to 10000 next year.
This concerns me, and I'm compelled to explain why I think a storm is brewing of which all of us should be intent on stilling.
In the Great Commission, Jesus said that because all authority in heaven and earth was given to him, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything He commands.
The Gospel is a hope-filled message for all people in which the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, and from which the chosen people of God are known - not so much by their claimed label or rhetoric, but by their fruit. It is in the hope of Christ alone that the people of every nation who hope in Him are made one.
In contrast, the mission of Zionism is rooted in a rejection of Christ as Messiah, even as the Jewish apostles explained that the Pharisees conspired to have Him executed by the arm of Rome; and that the Pharisees went on to persecute the church, with the apostle Paul once being one of them. This began with the stoning of Stephen, having committed no violence of his own.
The European Jewish Congress today, though, deems the presentation of Pharisaical violence as antisemitic and calls for future editions of the Bible to say so.
And so it goes. Consider Jews who have spoken out in the film "Tantura" on Zionist terrorism of 1948, or the book "Holocaust Victims Accuse" or “The Ethinic Cleansing of Palestine,” or do a search on "October 7 inside job" or "1946 King David Hotel bomb" or “the Lavon affair” - and you see variations of the same pattern. Instigate violence. Blame others. Claim victimhood. Shame accusers.
Addressing this is not to foment retaliation, but exactly the opposite. The Gospel is actually a Jewish advocacy for non-violence and reconciliation, no matter who the people group is. Surely something is amiss when any of our money goes toward supporting any group of people in bombing any other group of people - all of whom Christ commands sharing the Gospel with. Especially when there are Christians among them. And especially when part of that money supports an AI system named "The Gospel" to establish bombing targets. Such actions are at odds with, and make mockery of, the great commission and should cause any follower of Christ to want nothing to do with it. Not to mention that leaving bombed people without food, clothing, or shelter, puts you on the goats' side of the Judgment seat.
In the interest of unity, and of our songs not being a noise God will not listen to, there are some things that I submit are worthy of urgent study today.
They begin with determining what the Bible reveals in:
1: Differentiating between carnal and spiritual Israel.
2: Differentiating between Amalek and Palestine.
3: Differentiating between promises to Abraham (eternal and in Christ) and the old covenant with Israel (conditional and broken) - and the new covenant with Israel (eternal and in Christ).
4: Differentiating between prophecies which have good reason to be understood as already fulfilled from those which don't.
May the Gospel of God's grace and peace be made clear to all people of Shem and Ham and Japheth, and may we be relentless in insisting on it. May those who need to repent do so, and find forgiveness in the Lord Jesus. May the one holy nation of every tribe and people and language stand up and declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. May the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in the sight of our Rock and Redeemer. May we love as God has loved us, and be one as God is one. May Christ's Kingdom come, and His will be done on earth - as it is in heaven. And may we act with confidence that the increase of this government will continue to know no end.
